Two New Defenses To A Speeding Ticket

[ Back to Articles ]

March 10, 2010

Two new defenses for fighting a speeding ticket have recently become popular chatter on social media web sites.

The first involves missile balloons such as the ones pictured above.   You attached these balloons to your automobile and drive as fast as you want.  If you are stopped, you tell the cop that you thought they were real.  This one reminds me of the short film Mater And The Ghostlight, a funny short film which accompanied Pixar’s DVD Cars.

The second excuse is a new variation to the “My speedometer was broken” defense (a defense which is not valid in New York).  The twist on this equipment malfunction defense is “Officer, my accelerator got stuck”.   Of course, this defense won't be successful unless you were driving a Toyota.

"You guys did a great job and, if I ever get another ticket, you will handle it."

"My son hired Matt to defend against 2 alleged speeding violations. In both cases, Matt's team was successful in getting the fines and points reduced. Would certainly use his services again in the event I give my son back the keys".
