Effective July 6, 2009, the New York Department Of Motor Vehicles will be charging $70 to lift a suspension from a motorist's license. That's a 100% increase over the current $35 suspension termination fee. It's particularly outrageous given that the STF (which is imposed upon a motorist who answers a ticket late or pays a fine late), is in addition to the fine and surcharge for this ticket. You pay what you owe (albeit belatedly) and they hit you up for even more money! The NY DMV continues exorbitantly tax New Yorkers.
