A recent study by Virginia Tech’s Transportation Institute, shows that texting trucker drivers are a staggering 23 times more likely than non-texting  truck drivers to be involved in a crash or a near crash.

Video cameras were installed in participating trucks allowing researchers to see the drivers’ faces while they drove and texted. The video revealed that texting was highly distracting and required the drivers to take their eyes off the road.

Texting and drivng is illegal in 14 states with New York soon to be the 15th.
