Matthew Weiss, leader of 888 Red Light, was pleasantly surprised this week when he opened an envelope from the White House. Inside was a letter signed by President Barack Obama thanking Weiss for his participation in a US Department of State initiative to forge connections among entrepreneurs around the globe. Last Fall, delegates from 30 different nations visited four U.S. cities engaging in various business and learning activities and meeting American entrepreneurs. Weiss was in charge of planning and executing the events in New York in his role as Global Learning Chair of the Entrepreneurs' ("EO") culminating in a keynote event with Mayor Michael Bloomberg at the Time Warner Center. EO is a not-for-profit with over 7,500 business owner members throughout the world. Weiss has been actively involved with EO for over a decade and has organized numerous such events. This, however, was the first time he received presidential appreciation. Recognizing the importance of entrepreneurship, Obama wrote that the "visionaries who pioneer new industries power the world's marketplaces, and it is in our mutual economic interest to create opportunities for them". Weiss was excited to receive this honor and remarked philosophically: "When you genuinely give with no ulterior motive, it is amazing the great things that come your way".
