In an initiative called "Summer Streets", NYC will be closing to vehicular traffic a 5-mile stretch of roadways from Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. The goal is to provide a safe haven to joggers, bikers and pedestrians on three consecutive Saturdays this summer. The route will be from Lafayette Street, 4th Avenue and Park Avenue to 72nd Street, then west to Central Park between 7 am and 1 pm on August 9th, 16th and 23rd. Traffic will be allowed to pass only at major cross streets.
