Westbury Village Judge Thomas Liotti granted the dismissal of an illegal immigrant's unlicensed ticket on the grounds that state law prohibiting them from obtaining a driver license violates their equal protection rights by preventing them from mounting a defense. Judge Liotti explained that there exists no substantial reason to deny undocumented immigrants the right to drive. The Judge has come under fire by conservative groups for this decision and has even been sent hate mail. Editor's note: Having personally appeared before Judge Liotti, I know him to be a fair and considered jurist.
